Saudi VAT calculator

Add 15% VAT to an amount, or take it out of a VAT-inclusive price. Rounded to the halala, no sign-up.

What do you want to work out?
Amount before VAT1,000.00
VAT (15%)150.00
Total including VAT1,150.00

Every result is rounded to the halala. The calculator applies the standard rate only.

How it is worked out

Two formulas, each with one step people often get wrong.

  1. Adding VAT

VAT = amount × 15%, and total = amount + VAT. Example: SAR 1,000 before VAT becomes SAR 1,150, of which SAR 150 is VAT.

  2. Taking VAT out of a total

Amount before VAT = total ÷ 1.15, and the VAT is the difference. Example: SAR 1,150 including VAT = SAR 1,000 before VAT and SAR 150 of VAT.

  3. The common mistake

Do not multiply a VAT-inclusive price by 15% to find its VAT: 1,150 × 15% = 172.50, more than the real VAT (150), because it charges VAT on the VAT itself.

The 15% standard rate has applied since 1 July 2020, as announced by ZATCA.

Questions

What is the VAT rate in Saudi Arabia?

15% on taxable goods and services, in force since 1 July 2020 as ZATCA announced it. Some supplies are zero-rated or exempt; this calculator applies the standard rate only.

How do I find the VAT inside a VAT-inclusive price?

Divide the inclusive price by 1.15 to get the amount before VAT; the difference is the VAT. A price of SAR 115 including VAT = SAR 100 before VAT and SAR 15 of VAT.

Why is my invoice total a halala off the calculator?

The calculator rounds each result to the halala. On an invoice VAT is worked out per line and then added up, so a multi-line invoice can differ by a halala or two from working out its sum in one go.

Does alFatora work out VAT on my invoices?

Yes. Every line on an invoice carries its VAT rate, and VAT and totals are worked out when the invoice is issued, so you do not need a calculator for each one.

Let VAT work itself out

In alFatora, VAT on every line and the invoice totals are worked out when you issue it, on invoices compatible with ZATCA requirements.
